Assamese is one of the important languages in the entire North East India. Out of the total 22 languages included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India, Assamese language is one of them. Since its inception in 1965, the department of Assamese has been successfully disseminating teaching, learning, evaluation, research and extension activities in Assamese Language and Literature. The department at present imparts under graduate programme in the form of Major and General Courses in Assamese along with Assamese as Modern Indian Language (MIL).

The Department of Assamese offers the following Courses:

  • 2) B.A. General Course in Assamese.
  • 3) MIL Course in Assamese.
